Proposal: Sunset rMATIC(POL LST) from rToken App, Focus on LSaaS and SubDAO

Abstract

This proposal outlines the plan to sunset rMATIC(POL LST) from the rToken app while retaining its underlying EVM technology in the LSaaS stack. This is part of a broader strategy to gradually phase out most rTokens and shift focus toward LSaaS and SubDAO expansion.

Motivation

Maintaining rTokens across different chains has become increasingly complex and resource-intensive. As the StaFi ecosystem evolves, LSaaS (Liquid Staking as a Service) has emerged as the primary growth driver, offering scalable and modular solutions for new partners and networks.

The removal of rMATIC(POL LST) is a strategic move to reduce technical and operational overhead while consolidating development resources around LSaaS infrastructure. The EVM-based architecture of rMATIC(POL LST) will remain available for future SubDAO integrations.

Specification

The sunset process will follow StaFi’s standard deprecation procedure:

  • Front-End Closure
The rMATIC(POL LST) interface will be removed from the rToken app at the end of the sunset period.

  • Back-End Maintenance Window

The backend service will remain active for a short grace period after front-end closure, to allow unstaking requests. If no further requests are made, backend services will also be shut down.

  • Tentative Timeline
The sunset process will begin this week and end by October 31, 2025.

Risks

  • Users who delay action may miss the window for unstaking from rMATIC(POL LST).
  • Community concerns may arise if not communicated clearly—therefore, early notice and reminders will be essential.

Next Steps

  • Publish this signal proposal to collect feedback.
  • Proceed with the pre-announcement post on all channels.
  • Finalize and execute sunset plan by October 31, 2025.
